The year is 2247, and Commander Frank Yamane's grave warnings of the Deravan's imminent return have gone unheeded. Once hailed as a hero who saved Earth from certain destruction, he is now seen as a relic from a past most people would soon forget. Mired in petty squabbles and clashes over limited resources, the solar governments that still exist are consumed by their own self-interests, while millions of survivors cling to a tenuous existence. Yamane fears an increase in hostilities will break out into open war, and is sent as an ambassador to broker a peace agreement against Earth's most fearsome rival, the Jovian Alliance. What he doesn't realize is that the Deravans are the ones behind these conflicts. Their intent is to eliminate humanity in one fell swoop, and claim what they have craved since the dawn of time--unquestioned dominion over the galaxy.

It should have been easy. Hit the fuel depot behind enemy lines and get out. But when the mission goes terribly wrong, Sergeant Frank Yamane is forced to take command of the strike team, but finds himself in an almost impossible situation--complete the mission knowing they have little chance of making it out alive.

Rescue Brokers are one of the most notorious professions known in the galaxy, and the most benevolent--for the right price. Matt Rodgers, who thought of himself as a budding writer until he has all but failed his college writing class, learns this lesson first-hand when an acerbic alien known only as Stelfson unexpectedly lands in his backyard and offers him the literary opportunity of a lifetime.

At the newly excavated Medieval library in Istanbul, Turkey, a discovery is made that is poised to rock Christendom to its very foundation—an 800-year old letter which purports to reveal the final resting place of Jesus’ Cross.

This explosive news is kept quiet at the behest of Vladimir Zarco, a Ukrainian billionaire whose illegal business activities are threatened by the document’s discovery.  He hastily convenes a team of experts in an effort to discredit the manuscript’s authenticity, but when their analysis points to it as being genuine, a bomb destroys the research center.  Zarco shuts the project down, and orders the surviving researchers to leave.  Two of the linguists, Drs. Mallory Windom and Colton Foster, have other ideas.  Once bitter enemies, they decide to hunt for the cross on their own, even though mysterious forces seem bent on stopping them at all costs.

Mallory and Colton follow a trail of clues described in the letter, eventually leading them to Israel, where they find themselves battling against time, hired mercenaries, and each other.  Despite the obstacles thrown at them, Mallory and Colton press on to an ancient Jewish town where the Cross has allegedly been hidden.  They soon discover, however, the fiercest battle is not from without, but from within, testing their beliefs, their ethics, and their growing love for one another.

In the bowels of the city of Balal stands an archway of stone, a portal that opens doorways to other times and places. Lehkahn the elf pursues his nemesis, Sargon Balal, through this gateway and finds himself in the strange world of a future Earth, New Los Angeles. There he meets the robot 9.06, who in spite of his better judgment joins him in the pursuit of their common foe.

Yeshua the carpenter sends a boy from first-century Nazareth, Zachariah, to join the elf in his quest.

Drawn into a world of crystal, where life itself exists in crystalline form, the three unlikely heroes are aided by Agata, crystal princess and heir to the throne of the Sapphire Monarchy. The future of the crystal kingdom at stake, their struggle against Sargon's wicked genius will bring suffering almost too great for them to bear.

And the portal still stands, linking other words yet unknown...

Nestled in the wooded hills east of the San Francisco Bay, Dublin’s sprawling valley has welcomed people from all walks of life throughout its rich history.  At the heart of the tri-valley region, this former agricultural community has grown exponentially over the years, forming a modern city.  From California’s first native inhabitants, through the Spanish and Mexican periods, to the arrival of the first American settlers, Dublin has long been at the crossroads of culture and settlement.

Author Mike Lynch has gathered a unique gallery of images and stories from a variety of public and private sources throughout the tri-valley area.  With the help of Elizabeth Isles, director of the Dublin Heritage Center, and the invaluable contributions of many of the families whose roots stretch back to the town’s earliest days, they have compiled this remarkable volume of Dublin’s storied past, thus preserving its imagery and history for generations to come.
